Mathieu Mascles holds a Master of Business Administration from Melbourne Business School, Australia (2015) as well as a Master of Computer Science from Ecole Nationale d’Ingénieurs de Brest, France (2003). After graduation, he has worked for 3 years as a contractor for the European aircraft manufacturer Airbus. Then, Mathieu joined the French industrial giant Thales that has operations in 56 countries and counts more than 60,000 employees. Thales’ main business lines include Defense, Space, Aerospace, Ground Transportation and Security. Mathieu is currently Deputy Engineering Manager in Beijing EasySky Technology Ltd (BEST), a subsidiary of Thales, well-known experts in the development of China’s civil aviation Air Traffic Management (ATM) systems. Today, Thales/BEST ATM systems control more than 60% of the total air traffic in China (Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou).

Air Traffic Management (ATM) systems are real-time safety critical distributed systems which primary purpose is to organize the flow of air traffic and avoid collisions between aircrafts. Using surveillance radars, ADS-B and other equipment, air traffic controllers issue commands to the aircrafts, avoid air collisionsdanger areas and so on.

Developing the software of Air Traffic Management systems requires highly skilled engineers and stringent engineering procedures in order to guarantee the highest level of quality. This lecture will present the Software Development Life Cycle in use at BEST for implementing large scale safety critical Air traffic Management systems. It will cover various engineering aspects such as requirement management, software configuration management, continuous integration, automated testing.
